ThyssenKrupp Uhde’s roots as an engineering company are in Dortmund. It now has subsidiaries and affiliates on every continent and employs more than 4,900 people around the world. ThyssenKrupp Uhde was founded in Bövinghausen near Dortmund in 1921. Eight years later the young company moved into a new engineering office in Dortmund where the head office of ThyssenKrupp Uhde GmbH can still be found today. For the past 40 years there has also been an ThyssenKrupp Uhde office in Bad Soden near Frankfurt, and there is also a research facility in Ennigerloh in Münsterland.
The majority of ThyssenKrupp Uhde employees work at the head office in Dortmund where more than 1,200 people are employed. The ammonia & urea, hydrogen and nitrates, coking technology, gas technology and electrolysis technical divisions are all housed here alongside the central administrative divisions.
Our branch office is located in Bad Soden, close to Frankfurt, where around 400 employees work. The refinery technology and organic chemicals and polymers divisions are all housed here.
Our development centre is situated in Ennigerloh in the heart of the Münsterland. The research and development work was amalgamated here in 1998 to reinforce ThyssenKrupp Uhde’s ability to remain competitive in the future through the strength of its innovations. Over the last few years, the work carried out at the centre has had a significant impact on ThyssenKrupp Uhde, strengthening its position with a series of new developments and process improvements. There are now 15 specialists, including chemists and chemical engineers, working at the research facility. This number is set to increase even further in the near future.
Although ThyssenKrupp Uhde’s head office is situated in the heart of the Ruhr region, the company enjoys a very international position. Alongside its other German subsidiaries in Hagen, Haltern and Berlin, ThyssenKrupp Uhde also has a number of international offices in a number of countries including Russia, Italy, India, Mexico, China, Thailand and Australia.
